Sulekha (a fellow FCPS teacher) and Brooke (headed with me to Morocco from Chicago) were some of the fellow Fulbrighters who made the symposium a blast!

How did I get here?
In 2019, I was selected for a U.S. Department of State Institute for local educators to learn about object-based learning using resources available through the National Museum of Diplomacy. I applied that fall to the Fulbright GCP without success, but getting on a waitlist to another program, the Fulbright-Hays, through the Department of Education, encouraged me to keep trying!
In fall 2022, I was thrilled to receive word of my acceptance to the Fulbright TGC, and also received an invitation to interview for the Fulbright Short-Term Program for three weeks in rural Morocco. I told the folks in Morocco that I was already accepted to the GTC program, and that while I did not know my placement, I hoped for a French-speaking one. I chose the TGC because it included graduate school credit along with a field experience. I put Sub-Saharan Africa as my first choice and North Africa as my second choice because Senegal and Morocco were a placements in the past, and I hoped to go to a French-speaking location.
After 9 weeks learning about global education, and applying our knowledge through lessons implemented in our classes, we waited for news on our international field experience assignments. I was very happy to be going to Morocco! Stephanie, my travel companion whom I met at the symposium, along with my teacher host, Meriem from Morocco, and I then began discussing our agenda and our hotel reservations online.
We have some amazing opportunities ahead of us! I hope to do all the things-- to try the food, see the medina and the old walls and gardens in Marrakesh, ride a camel in the desert, see the seaside town, mosques, and the capital city! I'll also be presenting, co-teaching, and meeting important people in education. I am sure it will be a life-changing opportunity, and I can't wait!
Today, I am making plans for my substitute (thank you Madame Locke!) while teaching, planning, and making this site :)
I have a pile of things needing to be packed, and a long to-do list! Sunday is coming fast, and I can't wait to board that plane!
