Q & A

Q: What kind of person should be an IB student?

A:  Anyone can enroll in Florida's Pre-IB courses as a 9th or 10th grader.  A student’s dedication to do his or her best, to study, and a willingness to be organized in order to complete the work while leading a full, balanced life are the only requirements. That's more of an indicator of ability to succeed than anything else.

A student who wishes to join the IB Diploma Program as an 11th grader must have taken 2 years of foreign language, and completed math through Algebra II. Students must be on track for graduation with satisfactory grades, and must be on grade-level for state assessments. Participation in Pre-IB is encouraged, but not required, for DP studies. A student doesn't need to be exceptional in every area, but must be willing to learn and to work.

Q: What is the IB Diploma?

A: The IB Diploma is recognized around by colleges and universities around the world, and shows that a student has the dedication, study skills, and knowledge to be a highly successful college student. In the State of Florida, the IB Diploma is so well respected that students are automatically awarded 100% tuition through the Florida Bright Futures scholarship at any public college or university. Students are also eligible to receive college credit for the work they did in the IB.

It's our belief that all of our students can earn the IB Diploma, and we will support you in every way to make that happen!

Q: Can I do things besides just academics?

A: We encourage it! Our students are in every type of extracurricular activity on campus: sports, clubs, and student government. Many of them lead those organizations, serving as officers. The key is to be a balanced person, and we'll help you with that!

Q: What about my free time? Do I get a life?

A:  Of course. You'll have time to do whatever you want -- binge Netflix, gaming, go to the beach, or whatever. Again, the important thing is finding balance, and making priorities. Think about what your goals are. Yes there will sometimes be homework or projects, but if you plan your time, you should be able to do almost everything you want.

Q: Is there help available if I need it?

A: Tutoring and study groups are available, and of course all of our teachers will be able to provide assistance to you. However, you need to ask. Taking responsibility for your own learning is an important part of being a successful student.
