The Research on the Instruction of Literacy with Language (RILL) English programme was developed to support pupil’s reading and writing after the learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the success of delivering RILL remotely, we are now working with schools to deliver the programme in-person using a technology-augmented, evidence-based approach.
Funded by the Nuffield Foundation and the Welsh Government, this project aims to test how well the RILL programme can improve reading and writing outcomes for 7–9-year-old pupils, particularly those who find literacy challenging.
Our Aims
To develop and enhance pupils’ language and literacy skills
To evaluate the ease and effectiveness of implementing the RILL intervention in schools
To collaborate with teaching assistants to advance their literacy instruction and ICT skills
