The Istituto Professionale Alberghiero Di Stato - Erice is entitled in the school year 1996/97 to two great Sicilian entrepreneurs: Ignazio and Vincenzo Florio, sons of an industrious Sicily, creator of wealth and center of Mediterranean and European culture that fully represent the vocation of the school and its ability to affect the territory.
In the same school year, a branch was opened, located on the premises of the Episcopal Seminary of Erice Casa Santa.
The Institute welcomes students from the provincial capital and the municipalities of the province, coming in most cases, from families dedicated to agriculture, crafts or commerce. In recent years, the attention of students coming from families that gravitate in the tourist-gastronomic sector has increased attention.
Thanks to the alternating school / work paths and the summer internships, a strong alliance has been created with the companies and economic operators of the territory that consider the school a significant point of reference for the training of staff in charge of tourist accommodation and hotel services. The interlocutory capacity of the Institute has meant that the attention towards the professionalism and skills required of workers has grown and determined a positive trend on the employability of outgoing young students.
To promote the integration of young people, even with specific problems, the professionalism of social workers and specialized external operators of the Municipality of Erice and Trapani was used and alternative strategies were implemented:
- Cooperation with other educational agencies in the area: Network Plans and Memoranda of Understanding ;
- Alternating school / work paths and internships involving local economic operators;
- Implementation of projects integrated with the world of associations and voluntary organizations;
- T utoraggio : intervention aimed at personality variables and towards learning factors to prevent discomfort, dispersion, deviance with SERT operators;
- interventions aimed at favoring the processes of active participation in citizenship through projects and activities in partnership with the EE.LL. and the Court of Trapani ;
- Integrative Education (laboratory activity).
The institute has developed a good ability to design and find funding from the EU that is equal to 9.9% of the total revenue of its budget. This has allowed the school to enrich its infrastructural heritage and to implement technologically advanced laboratories.
The training offer was also extended with language stays abroad, with paths for the recovery of key skills and work placements that made it possible to enhance the outgoing skills of students, both linguistic and professional.
The ability to find economic resources through sponsorship, loan for use, supplies and the establishment of collaborative relationships with leading companies in the hotel and tourism sector is also growing.
