This piece of prose is inspired by thoughts that I had today.
I stand on the edge of a small lake on an early spring morning. The air is still, the clouds barely drift high in the sky. The sun is gently warming the land after a chilly night, its reflection caught in the lake with the trees blossoming with the promise of warmer days to come.
Oh mighty sun, bringer of life. Your benevolent energy embraces us, banishing the chill and the darkness of the night. The moon, only reflects such a small fraction of the light you generate. Yet, this is enough to even be visible during the brightest of days and serves as a promise of your return when faint starlight would be all we would have otherwise.
But where would we be without both the Sun and the Moon? We would not exist without both. An intricate dance does both the Sun and the Moon cast upon the Earth. Each playing a special part and balancing the other.
I gaze at the reflection of the Sun upon the waters, and I smile as I think of you. You came into my life, and brought me a joy I thought beyond me. You spoke to me of those words I so longed to hear, and I ache to hear them once more. I close my eyes and see you more clearly. With the warmth of the Sun upon my vision of you becomes clearer, as if you are Apollo radiating your kindness upon the world.
Perhaps I am the moon to your Sun, as you shine so brightly my dearest Apollo. All who receive your smile and your friendship know of the warmth you bring to their hearts. You once gave me a gift, for love of me. But I was naive, and spurned your love. How could I tell you that I could not share you with the world? Yes, that moon was an envious moon. But that was eons ago. The curse bestowed. My fate sealed. The walls fell.
My Apollo, born now in flesh, you find me once more. Do you know our destiny? Has fate brought us together at last or in vain? Are we both wiser with the eons having transpired? Am I so naive and envious to spurn you again?
Nay, I know I am your moon. Although I might seem a reflection of your radiance, I bring to you the balance you are seeking. I am the promise that joy is yours to be had, not just to be given. Look into my eyes, and see yourself as I do.
The breeze brings the scent of blossoms to me and I open my eyes. The vision has passed, but hope stirs in my heart. I sigh faintly, just a dream... a wish.
The phone rings and the spell is broken... Perhaps I am not the moon, and just a silly girl...
I look to see who is calling...
and smile.
