1. Your brief introduction
I am Engineer by profession and a learner. I have tried my hand at acting, film making and music composing with varying degrees of success. I like to try new forms of art and am not afraid to fail.
2. Please tell us more about your role in the film?
My role is that of a father who is lonely as his son and his family have moved to another city. He finds it difficult to cope and learns to cope with it by doing some social work to give back to the community.
3. How did you prepare for your role?
Pankaj is a very thorough filmmaker. I followed his brief and tried to understand the shades of my character. If you know the intent of a dialogue in a script the acting follows from there.
4. In the movie” Zindagi Dobaara”, other than your character, which other character is your favourite and why?
I feel everyone did justice to their roles but I was impressed with all the youngsters who have done a very good job.
5. How is men’s mental health different from female mental health?
The main difference is that Males don't talk and discuss it, females are more expressive in their suffering and they share with others and talk about it.
6. What is the importance of rehearsals and preparations prior to any screen opportunity?
These are very important but we need to make a balance between preparing and spontaneity. Rehearsal should not be so much that the characters start looking robotic.
7. On the sets, how do you go about your role?
Do some rehearsals of the dialogues and choreography of the movement and timing of sequence are important things to practise.
8. How do you ensure your take was as per the script?
Discussion with the director and co-actors and getting feedback from director
9. In a brief summary, please tell us about the over all filmmaking experience in “Zindagi Dobaara”
It was a good experience as the commitment was there from the team, director and the screen play writer
10. Any other messages to your readers?
Watch the film, give us your opinions and share it with your family and friends when the film is released for public viewing.
Summary note by Pankaj Upadhayay
My first recollection of meeting Sanjeev ji was at a theatre event in 2019. After this I met him several times during the course of filming concerts and events where either he was part of the musical team or as a performing artist subtly hustling away his part, sometimes very silently. Then I watched one of his screen performances where he played one of the pivot roles from Hindi adaptation of "12 angry men". I liked his screen presence, endearing personality and decided to work with him someday. During the writing process of "Zindagi Dobaara", I could not think of anyone else who could play the conflicting role of Father, Grand Father and Father-in-Law with so much ease.
Sanjeev ji is so respectful, he never misses his rehearsals or going that extra mile when he is committed to any assignments. During rehearsals, in one scene I wanted him to emote more and look weak as a person. He followed up with me with several short clips of his recorded performances later and ensured he got the scene as how we had conceived. He is very prompt with anything you ask of him as an artist whether it is voiceovers or that extra line or moment. These little things remain with the production team and speaks volumes of his professionalism and work ethics. Given he is veteran of performing arts, we can learn so much from his dedication and simple attitude. Thank you for being part of "Zindagi Dobaara" | Pankaj Upadhayay | Euphony Films Australia | 20/12/2022
