  • in het geval van Denemarken en Nederland vreest de Commissie dat deze twee landen bij de aankoop van defensiematerieel ongerechtvaardigde compensatieverplichtingen opleggen aan niet-nationale leveranciers. Compensatieverplichtingen zijn beperkende maatregelen die het vrije verkeer van goederen en diensten belemmeren en zijn onverenigbaar met zowel het EU-Verdrag als de correcte omzetting en toepassing van de richtlijn.

De lidstaten hebben nu twee maanden de tijd om te reageren op de argumenten die de Commissie heeft aangevoerd.

De Europese Commissie heeft vandaag besloten Bulgarije en Nederland voor het Hof van Justitie van de EU te dagen voor de vertraging die is opgelopen bij het omzetten van de richtlijn betreffende de verlaging van de kosten voor breedband (Richtlijn 2014/61/EU).

Commissie stelt voor 1 miljard EUR te investeren in Europese supercomputers van wereldklasse

• • de EuroHPC-verklaring, ondertekend op 23 maart 2017 op de Digitale dag in Rome, door zeven lidstaten (Frankrijk, Duitsland, Italië, Luxemburg, Nederland, Portugal en Spanje). Later in 2017 hebben België, Slovenië, Bulgarije, Zwitserland, Griekenland en Kroatië zich daarbij aangesloten. Deze landen zijn overeengekomen om een pan-Europese geïntegreerde exaschaal supercomputerinfrastructuur tot stand te brengen. Andere lidstaten en geassocieerde landen worden aangemoedigd de EuroHPC-verklaring te ondertekenen.

Mergers: Commission clears acquisition of OCTE by Avis Budget Group and Koç Holding

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of OCTE of Greece by Otokoç ABG Holland BV of the Netherlands, which will be jointly controlled by Avis Budget Group Inc. ('ABG') of the US and Koç Holding A.S. ('Koç') of Turkey. OCTE trades as Avis Hellas and, since 2010, has been appointed as Avis' franchisee in Greece for the Avis and Budget brands. ABG is a global provider of rental cars and also operates a car sharing network through its Zipcar brand. Koç is an investment holding company which is active in a range of sectors, including energy, consumer durables, cars and finance. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, given the absence of horizontal overlaps or vertical links between the companies' activities in Greece. Although ABG, Koç and OCTE all provide short-term and long-term car rental services, their activities take place in distinct national markets. Moreover, there are no existing supplier or customer relationships between them. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
