Join Etz JIAC 11am 4/18/21: Healing Across The Divides

Etz Chayim’s Jewish and Israel Action Committee (Etz JIAC) invites you to join us at 11am on Sunday April 18, 2021 online for an illuminating discussion with Healing Across the Divides.

Speaker: Dr. Norbert Goldfield, Director of Healing Across The Divides

All of us are aware of the conflicts between the Israelis and Palestinians and most of us have feelings and beliefs about this situation. Where we might feel more uncertain, is what, if anything, can be done about this conflict or how to help marginalized Israelis and Palestinians. Only one American NGO (Non governmental agency) Healing Across the Divides (HATD) is working on peace through health and grants with both populations. Its work is apolitical with a focus on health. This is a unique opportunity to hear from the director of HATD to get a personal look at projects and grantees on both sides of the divide. The COVID pandemic is a challenge for all. HATD grantees are engaged - by helping out with contact tracing, vaccinations and other services. Dr Goldfield will also address the controversies particularly around vaccination.

HATD, a 16 year old not-for-profit, is based on a simple idea: All human beings desire better health. Our mission is: “Improve the health of marginalized people living in Israel and the Palestinian Territories via community-based intervention.” HATD has measurably impacted and improved the lives of over 200,000 marginalized Israelis and Palestinians. We accomplish our objective of measurable health improvement via increasing the effectiveness of the community groups we work with. Throughout the three years of the grant cycle, we bring the groups together, when desired to exchange ideas and if there is interest to work together. We do believe that this approach to bringing groups together and a focus on community based interventions to improve health can represent a pathway to peace building. Peace building through health requires leadership and an organizational strengthening (via HATD consultation) of our funded community groups. Community organizations can increase their strength with funding and support. HATD is the only not-for-profit that provides funding and technical advice on health to both Palestinian and Israeli communities; and the only one that fosters cooperation between the groups in the ways that each group deems best - a critical difference in these challenging times. The Etz Chayim Jewish and Israel Action Committee (Etz JIAC) is a group of congregants who are proud and inspired by the accomplishments and contributions of Israel and Jews. We are engaged in articulating the positive aspects of Jews and Israel and working to refute both misunderstandings and deliberate lies of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement as well as anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activities on middle school, high school and college campuses across the country. We arrange for guest speakers, and provide occasional update and action alert emails so that recipients can make their voices heard.
