Etz Chayim’s Jewish and Israel Action Committee (Etz JIAC) invites you to join us Sunday March 21 from 11:00am – 12:00am for an Inspiring JNF Northern California sponsored Zoom presentation.
Speaker: Noa Zer, Director of Resource Development, Central Arava Regional Council
Israel’s Central Arava Desert Communities Feed the World
Israel is a world innovator in developing novel techniques and pioneering hydroponic growth systems to save scarce water in arid climates. This technology and expertise is offered by Israel to leverage peace and outreach world-wide. Arava International Center for Agriculture Training (AICAT) is an Israeli organization that teaches not only the best and most environmentally friendly farming practices in the world, but also the business skills to economically disadvantaged people under the principle of “Learn by Doing”.
Meet Israeli farmers growing and exporting unparalleled yields of superior quality fruits and vegetables in one of the world’s driest desert environments. These farmers, along with leading Israeli research scientists and educators, share their expertise in arid-agriculture with over 1,000 students from developing countries in Africa and Southeast Asia who study and train each year at AICAT, a proud JNF partner. AICAT empowers its students to create agro-businesses in a diverse set of climates. More than 30,000 alums apply their new-found knowledge and skills to provide enhanced food security back in their home communities, fulfilling the Jewish value of tikkun olam, while also serving as outstanding ambassadors for the state of Israel.
The Central Arava region, that was once part of the Israelites 40 year’s exodus journey in the desert, is today a thriving agricultural region, located along the Jordanian border halfway between Be’er Sheva and Eilat, home to several growing towns that have benefited significantly from JNF’s strategic investments. JNF donors funded development of the region’s first medical and emergency response centers and are supporting cutting-edge research to find medicinal cures for some of the most dreaded diseases known to mankind. Participation is free. To join, please reserve your seat here.
Even if you’re not sure if you can make it, please sign up in advance since the Zoom credentials will be emailed in advance and not be posted online.
Noa Zer partners closely with JNF to sustain and develop Israel’s arid desert region along the Jordanian border. With the support of her leadership and JNF, the Israeli government is allocating resources for the development of an agricultural training center, kindergartens, water solutions and various other community development projects in the region. A sabra (native Israeli) raised in the suburbs of Tel Aviv, Noa lives with her husband—a second-generation pepper farmer—and her three children.
