OŠ "Josip Vergilij Perić" Imotski, Croatia

Elementary school Josip Vergilij Perić, Imotski is an educational institution. Our town of Imotski is located nearby the Adriatic Sea and very well connected with our coastal tourist towns. Recently, our town and its surroundings are becoming more and more involved in tourism. According to the 2011. census, the town of Imotski has 10 764 inhabitants. The town of Imotski is located behind the mountain Biokovo, in the Dalmatian hinterland on the border of Herzegovina with Dalmatia with two pearls of nature: Red and Blue Lake. Blue Lake becomes a bathing area in summer. The swimmers descend all the way to the lake and the beach along the arranged serpentines, while it is not possible to access the Red Lake due to the steep cliffs that surround it. Our school is named after a priest, politician, writer and translator Josip Vergilij Perić, who encouraged the construction of the building. The building was completed in 1911., but our school was founded in 2017. We have five hundred and twenty pupils from 1st to 8th grade (aged from 6-14). We also have seventy-six employees and fifty-eight of them are teachers. The home school is in the center of Imotski, but we also have four district schools in the surrounding areas attended by students from 1st to 4th grade. During the year, employees regularly develop professionally by attending various seminars and conferences at the regional and state levels. English language is taught from 1st to 8th grade as the 1st foreign language. We are proud of a wide range of languages taught in our school. From 4th to 8th grade our students can choose German, Italian or French as the 2nd foreign language and each year, our students show great interest in them. Many of our students also attend the Elementary Music School and achieve enviable results. Also, like their teachers, they participate in various activities, competitions and festivals during the school year. For example, they participate in the Mathematics Competition, Mathematical Competition Klokan, Informatics Competition Dabar, the Croatian Language Days. We are marking Valentine's Day, the Day of Remembrance of the victims of Vukovar, Down Syndrom International day, the healing power of the book - Book Night, Earth Day and many more. We also participate in Erasmus + and eTwinning projects and we are very proud of our student choir. Through all these activities we develop communication skills, learn to cooperate, develop responsibility, creative and critical thinking. Our students not only acquire factual knowledge but during primary education they prepare for future education and acquire the skills they need for further development.
