Osnovna škola Zmijavci, Croatia

Primary school Zmijavci is placed in village Zmijavci, near the town of Imotski, a rural area in the Split-Dalmatia County, in the central part of the Adriatic coast. Zmijavci has about 2,500 inhabitants and the main economic activities are viticulture agriculture and tourism. The school offers compulsory primary education (years 1 to 8). We have 51 employees and 291 students. The school is very well equipped with various teaching aids. School employees regularly develop professionally by attending various seminars and conferences at a regional, state and international level. The continuous quality of the teaching process is displayed by the numerous successes of pupils in various competitions, awards and recognitions. The teachers receive the same merit for their work by publishing numerous professional and scientific articles in Croatia and abroad. Besides the regular classes, pupils can expand and develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes in additional classes and various extracurricular activities. Our students learn two foreign languages, English and Italian. Teachers run different workshops and international projects which develop innovation, creativity, cooperative learning and teamwork our students and teachers. We regularly encourage the development of digital literacy and skills with our pupils, which is why we actively participate in celebrating the Safer Internet Day, Hour of Code, EU Code Week etc. Students and teachers also take part in various activities during the academic year. We are going to list a few of them: school, county, regional and state competitions, Maths competition Klokan, ICT competition Bebras, marking the European Day of Languages, World Water Day, Valentine's Day, the Carneval, Remembrance Day for the victims of Vukovar, Days of Bread (celebrating nature and all it gives us). Through that activities, we aim to strengthen responsibility, communication skills, leadership skills, develop creative thinking, critical thinking, metacognition and non-conformity of pupils. We offer our pupils the possibility of exploring new areas of interest, develop experiential learning and accomplish the transfer of knowledge. It is our mission to develop lifelong learning skills and prepare our pupils for further education and the future labor market.
