The prize for the winners of the ancient  Olimpic Games was ''kotinos'' a wreath  of wild olive leaves and an olive branch from the sacred tree Kalistefanos. Τhe winners also had a red woolen ribbon that they wore around their head.

The cities  sometimes gave as prize 500  drachmas of Solon that was a big amount in this period. 

The real price for the winners was the fame that remained even after their death.
