SeeClickFix Project

Created by JASON MUNIZ

Oakland teachers have voluntarily shared their creative and intellectual work with our ethnic studies teaching community. Please respect the library agreements for all materials on this site.

Topics & Concepts: Resistance, Social Movement, Agency

Guiding Questions:

  • How can small acts of resistance serve to improve our community?

  • Can SeeClickFix help people in Oakland to resist oppression and gain agency?

Unit Sequence:

  • First, students are introduced to the SeeClickFix project through a Prezi lecture.

  • For homework, students choose an issue they are going to report (graffiti, illegal dumping of trash, potholes or problems with the sidewalks), describe the issue in detail and photograph it.

  • Next, students create their SeeClickFix accounts and report the issue. After reporting the issue, students are expected to monitor their SeeClickFix account for status updates on their issue and update a status tracking poster hanging in the classroom.

  • For their final assessment, students write two blog posts describing their experiences:

      • Prompts for the first blog post center on the question: "Do you think SeeClickFix can help people in Oakland to resist oppression and gain agency?"

      • Prompts for the second blog post center on two questions: "What patterns can you notice about which issues are resolved and which are not?" and "Do you think 9th grade students are gaining agency based on their efforts on this project?"

Notes on Materials Included:

  • This mini-action project is part of Jason Muniz's eight week unit on Resistance (The complete folder of materials for Unit 4 can be found on Google Drive.)
