Existing Guidelines Review

We have conducted a comprehensive review of more than 80 existing ethics guidelines, principles and protocols to judge if and to what extent ethical challenges for research staff are already being considered and adhered to at present. Our results indicate that there is a lack of protection when it comes to issues such as power imbalances, political risk, staff's emotional wellbeing or dealing with feelings of guilt. We call upon lead organizations to develop guiding principles that encompass the safeguarding of research staff, which shall then be adapted and translated into specific protocols and tools by institutions.
