Etc.

One of my hobbies outside of academia is photography. I'm currently shooting on a Canon EOS 60D. Here are some photos I've taken over the years.

California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) overlooking Angel Island, Mt. Tamalpais, and the SF Bay

An unexpected yet welcome hobby that entered my life during graduate school is botany and native California ecology. Since 2020, I have been a regular volunteer with the Skyline Gardens native plant restoration project in the Berkeley Hills. We remove invasive plants and replant native species from locally collected seeds in an attempt to restore the native diversity that make local ecosystems resilient and healthy for all organisms.

I've learned a lot about the different species, both plant and animal, that call California home. You can check out the organisms I've met on the public naturalist/citizen science platform iNaturalist.
