One of my hobbies outside of academia is photography. I'm currently shooting on a Canon EOS 60D. Here you can scroll through some photos I've taken over the years.
California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) overlooking Angel Island, Mt. Tamalpais, and the SF Bay
An unexpected yet welcome hobby that entered my life during graduate school is botany and native California ecology. Between 2020 and 2024, I was a regular volunteer with the Skyline Gardens native plant restoration project in the Berkeley Hills. We remove invasive plants and replant native species from locally collected seeds in an attempt to restore the native diversity that make local ecosystems resilient and healthy for all organisms.
I've learned a lot about the different species, both plant and animal, that call California home. You can check out the organisms I've met on the public naturalist/citizen science platform iNaturalist.
