Participation is about how you are showing up for yourself as well as for our learning community each day. This looks different for everyone. Other than speaking up in class, some ways you can actively engage are:
Submitting your Syllabus Quiz
Arriving to class well-fed and well-rested for optimal learning
Monitoring personal laptop and mobile device usage in class
Attending office hours or scheduling to meet with me
Sharing a pertinent and relevant event or an article, video, or social media post
Submitting written anonymous thoughts for discussion to the class “anchor box” or emailing me separately
Asking to slow the pace to allow more time for collective processing
Practicing radical listening: paying great attention in class with full presence of mind/body/heart
Being prepared with having closely read, watched, viewed, and listened to all course materials
Assigned at the beginning, middle, or end of each class to take seriously your ability to BE PRESENT in class each day—that is, physically, mindfully, and heart-fully present. These multiple modes of presence are necessary to cultivate a full learning experience in our classroom.
Will cover course material at the midway point of the term in an online test consisting of multiple-choice, matching, and true/false questions on Canvas. A study guide will be provided. You will have multiple attempts and Canvas will keep the highest score.
To help you critically think through course materials and topics, you will submit a total of 6 (six) 250-word minimum reading responses in a PCAR (Purpose, Concepts, Applications/Analysis, Reflections) format, worth 10 pts each, totaling 20% of your course grade. Know that any other readings for which you do not complete a PCAR may show up in your midterm. See tentative course schedule below for due dates.
*See Dr. Nievera-Lozano’s instructional video and tips for a strong PCAR.
A detailed guide will be provided for this group project.
Go to Modules from the Canvas navigation menu. Proceed through the module to approach each assignment. Note that modules are set up so that you must complete all items in order. Cover all lectures, readings, and/or other assignments before attempting to to unlock the next item.
Announcements will be sent out with important information. Make it a regular practice to read your emails for all announcement notifications.
Weekly assignments are due Thursday, 11:59 pm, unless otherwise noted.

After FOUR (4) missed assignments, you may be dropped from the course without notice.
May be offered to make up a daily journal and/or daily activity. Details to come.
