Assigned immediately after orientation to ensure your commitment in our course, the Syllabus Quiz tests your comprehension of key details outlined in our syllabus and our "Meet & Greet" is a discussion assignment in which you introduce yourself to your peers.
Assigned to take seriously your ability to BE PRESENT in our course each day—that is, physically, mindfully, and heart-fully present. Students will write authentic reflections necessary to cultivate a full learning experience in our virtual space.
Will cover course material at the midway point of the term in an online test consisting of multiple-choice, matching, and true/false questions on Canvas. A study guide will be provided. You will have multiple attempts and Canvas will keep the highest score.
To help you critically think through course materials and topics, you will submit a total of 6 (six) 250-word minimum reading responses in a PCAR (Purpose, Concepts, Applications/Analysis, Reflections) format, worth 10 pts each, totaling 20% of your course grade. Know that any other readings for which you do not complete a PCAR may show up in your midterm. See tentative course schedule below for due dates.
*See Dr. Nievera-Lozano’s instructional video and tips for a strong PCAR.
This paper (5-7 pages) will ask you to thoughtfully articulate your understanding of critical course concepts through your choice of either a Standpoint Paper or a Community Study Paper. A detailed guide will be provided.
Go to Modules from the Canvas navigation menu. Proceed through the module to approach each assignment. Note that modules are set up so that you must complete all items in order. Cover all lectures, readings, and/or other assignments before attempting to to unlock the next item.
Announcements will be sent out with important information. Make it a regular practice to read your emails for all announcement notifications.
Weekly assignments are due Thursday, 11:59 pm, unless otherwise noted. See late work policy.
May be offered to make up a daily journal and/or daily activity. Details to come.
