Project ENTITY is a school-based project that ensures the youth having an access to social services and quality education that empowers them to be knowledgeable to make responsible decisions that are crucial to end the teenage pregnancy issue in the country.
Teenage pregnancy prevention is regarded as a national priority in every country due to the uncontrollable cases that are reported globally each year. Taking this into account, the aim of this project is to identify and implement effective interventions, such as thorough sexuality education as well as media and communications-based health promotion.
The Philippines is one of the top ten countries where the there are an increasing number of teenage mothers, according to the World Bank. Due to a steady rise in teen pregnancies over the past 10 years, teenage pregnancy is now considered a social emergency in the Philippines. Additionally, the Philippines has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancies among the ASEAN members (UNFPA, 2020).
Nationwide, the percentage of young women who have started having children is lower in urban places (7%) than in rural areas (10%), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA)'s National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS, 2017). Compared to young women with higher education levels and those from wealthier households, young women with only a basic education and those from the poorest households are more likely to have started having children.
the project ENTITY will serve as one of the bridges to accomplish the mission and vision that the proponents aim to achieve. Through the use of both the digital and real world, the proponents will disseminate booklets and flyers to educate teenagers containing the causes and consequences of being a teenage parent; the proponents will hold seminars and webinars for teenage pregnancy preventative measures. Moreover, these plans will be conducted through face-to-face discussion, reading materials, or online, to disseminate the knowledge on a larger scale of audience.
Since the proponents are aiming for larger number of audience to campaign their advocacy, they have used both physical and digital world to reach people around the world. One of the platform that the proponents used to reach out people is YouTube wherein they have uploaded a campaign video with regard to teenage pregnancy. Numerous Balayan Senior High School students and hundreds of online viewers have already finished watching their documentary vlog. The proponent consider this to be one of their greatest successes. Achieving this milestone means a lot for their team as this pushes them to do more for people to see and learn.
Right now, the proponents are more eager to reach further milestones.
