Teaching with Podcasts

We think this strategy guide for teaching with podcasts is awesome. It not only describes the strategic process involved in podcast creation, but it also includes sample lesson plans that incorporate podcasts for grades 3 - 12.

So if you’re ready to integrate podcasts into your classroom, you may be concerned about providing all necessary instructions, tools, and resources for your students to get started. National Public Radio (NPR) has put together Starting Your Podcast: A Guide For Students. It includes valuable information on how to go from getting ideas together right to editing the final product (with plenty of examples mixed in). Upon going through this guide your students will be able to put together a quality podcast for their class.

As an educator, you may be wishing there was such a guide, like the one mentioned above, for you. Well, you’re in luck! National Public Radio also developed Teaching Podcasting: A Curriculum Guide for Educators. The New York Times also released a similar guide in their article Project Audio: Teaching Students How to Produce Their Own Podcasts. Both of these resources/lesson plans include step by step instructions on how to teach your class about podcasting and set them up for success.

Finally, we recognize that many of you are educators. We found this useful site run by PlayerPM that includes podcasts for teachers. There are even podcasts for those new to teaching.

Here is a list of several great podcasts that you can use in your K-12 classroom. These educational podcasts cover an array of subjects. See if there is one that would work for your classroom!
