Intensifying Interventions

Once intervention supports are solidly in place, districts will begin the process of deeper analysis of data in order to determine if students are making adequate progress. Application of intervention decision rules, documentation of delivery of intensification strategies, and analysis of issues around intervention content and delivery will allow leadership teams to identify areas for focus.  Strategies and techniques to intensify intervention support for students whose progress is not on track to meet goals, and coaching or professional development needs of interventionists will be explored. Participants will have the opportunity to problem solve, plan for intensification of interventions, and develop intensification plans for their intervention groups.

2. Intervention Response Decision Rules video (34:24)-  This training provides the purpose of using written procedures when data is reviewed to determine if students are meeting goals and at adequate rate of progress. We discuss the different data sources to gather in order to be ready to apply the intervention response decision rules.

2.5 Meeting to Review Student Progress video (14:12) - In this video, we discuss how to plan for your meetings where you will be examining student intervention data. Information includes how many intervention data points are needed, who attends the meeting, when meetings occur, who brings what data, and which types of decisions are made, documented, and communicated to others.

4. Intensifying Interventions video (26:12) - This video reviews areas to examine to determine which students or groups are making adequate progress, and reasons why inadequate progress may be seen. It discusses how to test up or test back as needed, and ways to increase the intensiveness of an intervention.

Problem Analysis Checklist for Intensification - Areas to examine when identifying what parts of interventions are strongly implemented. 

Examining the Why of Academic Concerns - Potential data to analyze in your examination of academic concerns to assist with determining the WHY of the problem. Includes strategies to address environmental variables and issues with fidelity, along with strategies for intensifying intervention when there are curricular, instructional, dosage, and learner variables.
