Many students aim to go to the University once they leave highschool. Universities in New Zealand and overseas all have different requirements so it is important for students to make a time with the Career's Department to know exactly what they need. Career Wise on School Bridge is extremely useful as it shows the timeframes of subject selections, scholarship opportunities, CV / Job preparation opportunities, gateway and many more.
The details listed below are general rule of thumbs. Reminder that students must book a time with Careers and have everything confirmed. We can share some knowledge with the student but we are not the experts.
New Zealand Universities eg. AUT

Overseas University
School report to show that the student has completed schooling in New Zealand. This is provided through the International Department only. This is mostly relevant to the Japanese students.
Some countries may require students to just do an IELTS test with or without NCEA credentials. That is for the student to research, organise and study in their own time as there are multiple resources for IELTS online. If the student prefers books, please tell them to email ELE at ele@pakuranga.school.nz
Australian Universities
Most Australian Universities requires NCEA Level 3 English credits (not offered in ESOL) and / or ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank ) and / or IELTS.
How the ATAR is Calculated
Best 90 Credits from UE approved NCEA Level 3 Assessment Standards

Merit = 3.5
Achieved = 2.5
Not going to University / unsure of what path they want to do
The school has a gateway programme where students in Year 12 are able to sign up with Careers in Term 3 to experience working life in different career fields.
Students who are unable to gain enough LIT / UE LIT / NCEA credits tend to go to MIT as MIT has no requirements or get a job.
