A minimum of 10 literacy and 10 numeracy credits must be met once during NCEA. This is through the ESOL transitional LIT papers (US30511 and US30507) in 4EAP and English transitional LIT papers (AS91101, AS91102, AS91104, AS91105, AS91106) in 5EAP / 5EAU until the end of 2026. From 2027, all students will have to sit the CAA LIT co-requisite exams in May and / or September with the rest of the school.
University entrance (UE) indicates the minimum level of prior learning typically required by tertiary providers to allow a student entry into a degree-level programme.
To be awarded UE, you need:
NCEA Level 3
14 credits at Level 3 in each of three approved subjects. ESOL is not an UE approved subject.
10 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above, made up of:
5 credits in reading
5 credits in writing.
10 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above, made up of:
co-requisite Level 1 Numeracy unit standard 32406 or Te Pāngarau unit standard 32412, or
certain achievement standards.
