The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
This is a google classroom I had created in my Technology in Education class. This video is like a virtual tour of the classroom and how I laid it out. My google classroom was for a 6th grade social studies class. The classroom had tests, quizzes, homework, etc, posted on there. Students could have easy access to it and complete their work.
This relates to standard 3, "The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context", because I planned this classroom based on a 6th curriculum. I used that knowledge to create assignments that would best fit a 6th graders learning level. I also had a variety of assignments for students who might learn differently, that way they weren't doing the same thing every lesson. I could create goals for my students through google classroom and see their progress and collect data.
This was my first time interacting with google classroom and creating my own so that was the biggest thing I learned. I learned how to navigate the site and how to make it as engaging for my students as possible. I liked how it turned out and would continue to make future google classrooms like this.
In my Critical Issues in Special Education class, we were assigned with a group to work together as IEP team and host an IEP meeting. This paper is my reflection on how that experience went and what it felt like running and IEP meeting.
I believe this assignment connects to standard 3, "The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement" because my group and I worked together to create an IEP writeup based on strengths of a student, their weaknesses, and their present level. We worked to plan for ongoing achievement for this student by providing the support they'll need.
From this experience I learned that IEP meetings can be scary but when you're apart of a great team it makes it better. I also learned that collaboration is key while writing the IEP because all team members will have something to offer to help aid in the success of the IEP.
