Project Description 

In this project, my objective was to find two articles that have different examples of cybersecurity attacks. Also I took the CCBC cyber security training which I thought was fun. 

Cyber Security in the News Articles 

Rokus User Accounts Hacked  

Popular streaming service provider Roku, their users accounts were account which amounted to 576,000 accounts. Now only 15,000 user accounts were affected by this security breach. The hackers were able to get the passowords of alot of accounts. This means that unauthorized people were able to gain access to people accounts to make unauthorized purchases. Roku did explain that nobodys credit card information was stolen from this hacking. If I was a Roku user I would set two-factor authentication for their accounts to beef up the security. I would make a longer and tougher password to confuse anyone that is trying to get into my account.

Texas Water Tower Hacked 

A hacking group with ties to the Russian government is suspected of carrying out a cyberattack in January that caused a tank at a Texas water facility to overflow. This was caused to due to low safety implements on cyber safety for the water industry. The hack was in small town of north Texas called Muleshoe. The city and its residents was affected as, the tank water overflowed for about 30 to 45 minutes before the city went offline and switched to manual operations. The article explains that they did not know how to prevent this situation as this flew way below the radar. But they have contacted the Joe Biden administration for better regulations and equipment to avoid this in the future.

Cybersecurity Training Certificate 

I completed the CCBC cybersecurity training certificate, I learned how to be safe while managing the internet. 

Lessons Learned 

I learned a lot about cyber security, especially considering the fact a cyber attack about an hour from Dallas happened and I had know idea. Learning how to protect yourself while being online and knowing what to look for when seeing threats is important. Now I know, how protect myself online and others.
