Liceul Tehnologic Economic „Virgil Madgearu” (LTEVM), Iaşi has a technological profile, preparing students for fields such as accounting, commerce, tourism, public alimentation. Our main purpose is to ensure intellectual and professional skills for labour market integration. There are 1106 students attending classes 9 through 12, and 79 teachers. Our students come from different social and ethnic backgrounds, a great number of them having a high risk of social exclusion: social precarity (244), students from mono parental families or with parents working abroad (214), Roma students (51), students from the Republic of Moldova (42). These figures justify the school’s effort of finding the most suitable solutions by developing an inclusive type of educational system, in order to naturally integrate and avoid discrimination and isolation. LTEVM is carrying out a sustained effort in using ICT in approaching the teaching-learning process and in developing not only the basic skills, but also job-related skills and transversal competences for our students, to ease their transition from school to labour market. By means of participating in this strategic partnership the students will reflect on the right usage of Technologies in their life, they will discover the benefits of maintaining an equilibrium between digitalization and experimental and experiential learning and they will broaden their cultural horizon through genuine interaction. Our school is a public high school, situated in Busto Arsizio (north of Italy), in an area between Milan, Como and Varese. Busto Arsizio is a big town and it is located in the middle of three big airports (Malpensa Airport is really close to Busto Arsizio). Our school consists of a foreign language high school, a human-social high school and a classical high school. 1298 students (aged 14-19) study in our school and the staff is composed by 104 teachers, 21 secretaries and custodians. The three different orientations offer a wide opportunity to our students: in addition to scientific subjects, art and history, the foreign language high school teaches them three foreign languages: English, German, French or Spanish. Latin is studied in the first two years. In the human-social high school the students study psychology and pedagogy. Their study is concentrated on self-consciousness and self-awareness. The classical high school is characterized by the study of the ancient languages: Latin and ancient Greek. Further all students have the possibility take part in one of the different groups working in the afternoon: music-group, theatre-group, maths-group, sport-groups. We diversify the teaching methods according to our students’ different capabilities. To have success in all this our school invests in innovating instruments, in a steady teachers’ training and in peer education. Our aim is of course to give our students a wide knowledge in different sectors, but what is important is to help them believe in their talent, in their capabilities, become adults. We have a wide variety of students belonging to different social classes, above all middle-upper classes. In most cases both parents work and leave their children alone all the day without any control. The consequence of this is that some students spend their free time playing computer games or watching TV all the afternoon. We are always trying to promote all the activities whose aim is to prevent the gambling addiction and also cyber-bullying. In the past our students have produced some videos about gambling addiction. Every kind of gamble is linked to behaviour very closed to illegal and criminal actions. For this reason it’s important to educate our students to legality and to the respect of all the rules in social life. Modern students like every kind of technology. We must not prevent them to use it, but we have to teach them the best and most useful use of technology. Our school have experience in Eu-projects, but not after 2015. The project team will include all the teachers of the classes which will be involved in the project, moreover the legal representative, Mrs. Cristina Boracchi; the contact person, Mrs. Patrizia Fontana; the financial responsible, Antonio Colangelo; the person responsible with dissemination and mobility, Mrs. Daniela Cerana and Mrs. Anna Mascheroni, two English teachers, Mrs. Vittoria Macellaro ena Mrs. Benedetta Allaria.
Riga Secondary evening school nr. 18 is situated in Riga – the capital city of Latvia. Our educational programmes cater to varied needs of our students, be it distant learning, special needs, minority language based or adult oriented – both primary and secondary. Our speciality is inclusive education, something that, given the diverse background of our students, comes across as remarkably natural and unforced to us. We strive to provide an educational opportunity to those with complicated history of learning – students having had long off-school periods, expectant mothers, first-time parents and the like. We have all modern conveniences in order to meet the needs of these students – from the baby room with a child minder to an elevator for disabled students. Our school has extensive experience in the project field, both national and international. There are four Erasmus+ KA2 projects currently running, as well as two Comenius projects and one Erasmus+ KA2 strategic partnership having been successfully implemented in recent years. Some of Erasmus+ KA2 will end this year.
The last KA2 partnership, “Meeting the arts”, was in fact so successful, it has been awarded an Erasmus “Quality Label” for its outstanding results. Suffice to say, there is a strong and close-knit team of teachers behind it all, each having their own responsibilities, wholeheartedly putting in their best effort in securing that the project goals are met. There have also been multiple national level projects implemented with diversity and tolerance being the main topics. The goal of one the projects was to help those in need – elderly people in that particular case, with their day-to-day domestic struggles with the elderly sharing their wisdom with the young in an act of gratitude. It is worth mentioning that the project was vastly successful, having received delightful feedback from both sides. Another national level project aimed at preventing early school leaving is being run in the meantime. Ever since our school has joined the Erasmus+ KA2 strategic partnership program, it has made a huge difference in the lives of the students, if not everyone, then at least a great number of them. Multiple surveys have been carried out among students and their parents and the feedback was unanimous – everybody has felt extremely greatful for having been presented with such an opportunity, for it was such a mind broadening experience for them. Given the not so fortunate background of some of our students, it may be the only opportunity for them to explore the world, gain understanding of other cultures and exercise their communicative skills outside their regular environment. It is crucial to mention that for some students, the participation in Erasmus+ KA2 projects has been the breaking point in their lives that very much influenced their educational choices further in life.
