The project History and its Effects of today’s Youth (HEY) is based on the idea that understanding history is crucial to developing a united Europe. Our vision is to create a common understanding of how wars and conflicts, extremist views and migration issues have a reciprocal effect, and look at how these factors challenge the way we teach history to our students. Each country has its own dramatic past that shapes how history is taught in classrooms. The partner schools in HEY is selected based on a desire to bringing a broad range of historical events into the project. Experience in former Erasmus+ projects and eTwinning are other desired qualifications. The Croatian partner brings experience in several strategic partnerships and eTwinning to the project. They will organise a JSE(C1) to develop new teaching methods for the project. Croatia is a country with a dramatic past and they will factor in their experiences in teaching their nation’s history into the project. The objective for C1 is modernization of education. 20 teachers from all five partner schools will be participating on C1. Students will take part in preparatory activities and on TwinSpace. The Spanish partner brings experience in several strategic partnerships and eTwinning to the project. The Spanish history of re-establishing democracy after years under General Franco’s government will be the starting point for the SLE (C4) in Spain. Objectives to be met in C4 are active citizenship, democratic values and fundamental rights. The Cypriote partner has some experience in strategic partnership. As Cyprus is a divided island, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion will be the objectives of their SLE (C3). Students and teachers will both practice and experience the value of intercultural dialogue. The Greek partner brings the present situation of the ongoing refugee crisis into the project. Rhodes is a historically multicultural society and the present situation will be analysed considering this tradition. Non-discrimination, social, civic and intercultural competences are the objectives to be met in the SLE (C5) in Greek. Norway is the coordinator of this project and the less experienced partner in European funded projects. Objectives for the SLE(C2) are critical thinking and media literacy. To meet these objectives students and teachers will use the terror attack on Utøya, right-wing extremism and hatred in social media as the premise for developing new understanding and new skills. The project has two main target groups. Firstly, the most important is young people who will be the next generation of decision makers in their local society, in their countries and in Europe.
