ABOUT US
Our school is situated in the southern part of Malta, specifically in Cottonera. It is the largest of the four primary schools run by the same congregation in the Maltese Islands. Each of these four schools is autonomous and has annexed kindergarten schools. Our annexed feeder kindergarten school is situated in Santa Lucija. The kindergarten and Primary School cater for 500 students. Our primary school invests its optimal potential to offer an effective high-quality education provision in order to enable our students to reach their full potential. To this end, the curriculum programmes are grounded on the National Curriculum Framework, Learning Outcomes Framework and the official policies. Additionally, our school participates in various opportunities offered by the Secretariat for Catholic Education, The Ministry for Education and Employment, different NGOs and the European Schoolnet. Through such participation, our school broadens the students’ prospects of national and intercultural learning. They can apply and amalgamate diverse academic skills and competencies to address the issues encountered in these experiences. Through the eTwinning project, amongst other activities, some students have the opportunity to take part in virtual conferences together with other students abroad. The Senior Leadership Team comprises the Head of School and three Assistant Heads The teaching staff consists of twenty-three teachers and eighteen LSEs. The non-teaching staff includes the IT Technician, the secretary and the clerk, the receptionist, the cleaners and the handymen. The school is supported by a spiritual director. Moreover, the Secretariat for Catholic Education provides the school with a team of psychosocial and inclusion support professionals. Regular visits are conducted by a medical doctor and a nurse from The School Health Service to monitor our students’ health and well-being as well as provide preventive care services. In line with the NCF (2012), our curriculum embraces the interconnection between the learning areas and the cross-curricular themes for the primary years. Such a design ensures a holistic learning experience where the children can recognise the validity of learning academic content in their everyday lives. Learning activities give them multiple opportunities to apply what they are learning through practical experiences, both on an individual level and in a team.

The mindfulness, and wellbeing practices supported the students’ emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development, contributing to their overall happiness and positive mental health especially during the hard times of the Covid pandemic.
This activity engaged the students in the tree-planting process by fostering a deeper connection with nature and a sense of environmental responsibility which also offered the students the opportunity to reduced stress and increase their focus.
These sessions of mindfulness and wellbeing practices in our school supported the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of the students and also of our teachers.
An essential aspect of wellbeing in the school is the self-care of its own members. On the 23th of February 2021, during the CoPE session for the educators, the school organised an online activity specifically for the educators. The aim of this session was to enable the educators to stop and reflect on their self-care during the pandemic caused by the Covid-19, which brought on them several restrictions, mainly the limitation of social interaction. The administration is aware of the long hours that its educators are spending on preparations for teaching, neglecting even themselves.
With this in mind, the Head of School approached the psychosocial team supporting the school to organise a fun activity that would capture the aim of the session. The psychosocial team is a group of professionals including a psychologist, a play therapist, a social worker, a counsellor and the head of the department for inclusion. They came up with a 45-minute session involving a ‘Self-Care Bingo’ and a discussion on the preparation of a token for a colleague.
