Selfcare Self - esteem Restorative Practice
We are a post primary mixed school in Co. Tipperary, Ireland. We have 500 students and 60 staff working in our school. We adopt a very positive approach to mindfulness and well-being for both staff and students in our school.
We visited the fantastic school and had a tour on the first day. We also participated in a breathing excercise to help our wellbeing and be mindful of what we are feeling. We discussed how to bring these techniques into teaching and learning in school.
We visited the sport centre of excellence in Rio Maoir and had an excellent LTT on concentration and how to focus on our feelings and mindfulness. It also allowed us time to reflect.
We engaged in a fantastic music therapy session. This allowed us to learn about how to remain calm and engage with the sounds around us. It is amazing what happens to the mind when we relax.
In February 2023 we held our annual "if i had flowers" campaign. A student from each year group was nominated by their classmates to receive a bouquet of flowers as they felt this student was deserving.
In November 2022, all five partner schools travelled to Tallin to take part in the Estonian mobility. It was a very valuable experience and the Irish girls were mesmerised by the snow!!
We participated in many activities associated with the project themes. We were observing the Kiva project in classes and had a great cultural experience also.
One class a week in school is dedicated to tutor time where we check in with our students and allow time for wellbeing and positive thinking.
Our staff took part in an antibullying workshop. This is an award winning programme which helps tecahers identify the hidden bully
On Friday September 16th we held a Wellness Day. This promoted mindfulness and wellbeing in our whole school community. Students took part in many different activities and even took part in a Student vs. Teachers Tug of War with the students winning 3 - 2.
Overall, it was such a fantastic day for all.
We have added a collection of mindful colouring books, jigsaws and games to our teaching resources. These are available for our students to use in class when they are given an opportunity to wind down from study.
Four members of our Erasmus+ Team travelled to Malta in February for our Mobility to meet with the other members and learn how they adopt mindfulness and wellbeing strategies in their schools.
Each country involved presented a piece on the work we are doing in each of our schools to promote mindfulness and well being in our schools.
We visited one of our partner schools in Malta to observe their practices in the classroom under the topics of Socialisation, Soft Skills and Friendship.
On the final night of our mobility, we were all presented with certificates of participation for the week. We engaged in many activities throughout the week to enhance our knowledge of Mindfulness and wellbeing.
All of our Junior and Leaving Certificate students received a treat for all their hard work after sitting their pre-examinations. Well deserved!
As a treat for the end of term for our staff, everyone received a cupcake for their hard work put in over the last term.
As part of our self- care activities for staff, all staff received a school mug and a snack bar as a reminder to wind down from a busy day and ensure to spend time chatting to colleagues.
We held a Christmas door competition in our school to promote mindfulness. All our students came together to create a Christmas themed art piece on their classroom doors. The winning one was created by our Leaving Certificate Applied 6th year group.
Our 1st and 2nd year students took part in a self care and self esteem project called Optimistic October. Students worked together in their class groups to promote mindfulness and wellbeing around our school.
