About 60 students from our school participated as guides in the workshops organized by our
institute, while about 560 pupils, along with their teachers, visited the workshops.
The workshops:
1) “Sustainable temperature”
Aims: bringing the children closer to the world of physics (temperature);
raising the children’s awareness of environmental issues, which are increasingly present
in our daily lives, through interactive activities such as the production of recycled paper.
2) “The magnificent 3”
Aims: showing the contribute of chemistry in the kitchen.
The guides showed how milk, lemon and fruit juice can be used and transformed (in the kitchen
and not), asking the children to find the right dosage, the correct operating procedures, the most
appropriate materials and tools in order to get the expected results. Five different activities were
proposed, among which how to make a battery using lemons or Coke, how to make fruit juice
caviar or Coke caviar, and how to make chocolate lollipops or chocolate spaghetti.
By taking part in the 2019 Bergamoscienza Festival, the guide-students took on the role of science
popularizers, offering the students from other schools a unique peer-to-peer learning experience.
They also provided the general public with an opportunity of informal education, which contributes
to strengthen the precious relationship between science and civic awareness.
It was observed that running the workshops enhanced the students’ communicative and relational
abilities, such as adapting to different interlocutors and situations, their ability to cope with
unexpected events, organize the work and share out tasks.
11 th Feb 2020 The International Day of Women and Girls in Science and ISIS O. Romero
On the occasion of the 5th International Day of Women and Girls in Science,
to celebrate #WomenInScience, some students of our school have wanted to underline
the role of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Enineering, Mathematics) in spite of prejudices
and gender stereotypes.
The students have dressed commemorative stickers.
During the day of 11 February some slides were be shown at the entrance and on different ponits of
the school of our schooconcerning scientists who have won prestigious awards and, in some cases,
undeservedly unknown and forgotten. They are certainly only small symbolic gestures
which however intend to encourage the participation of women in Science as well
as supporting the claim of equal opportunities in the scientific career.
