Training Requirements for Bird care:
Notes: every day, ever bird is cleaned, watered and fed. The trainer will show you how this is done as it is done by zone and a check list is followed each time.
To ensure everyone is covered and that your team mates know your zone is done, ever zone is completed in a specific time of day and order.
Before our store opens the facility is cleaned and vacuumed so that the store can be open for business and the customers can experience a well presented place of business.
First order of business in the morning “Cubes”
These are the glass enclosures located in the main room you enter, to the left of our Cashwrap.
These enclosures are cleaned starting at 8am.
To begin you will have the “maintenance cart ”from the back quarantine areas with you. This cart should have the types of seed you will need to feed with, a picture of clean water, a carrier to store the birds who’s enclosure you will be working on and the stores first floor vacuum.
Next you will need to have with you a bag of bedding.
Next you will need the garbage - make sure a garbage bag is present and do not fill this bag past 3/4 full so you alone can remove it and dispose of it when ready to be dumped. * once set you begin by capturing the birds in the first “cube enclosure” you are going to work on and place them into the carrier. (They wait in there until you are done)
ext you clean out the bedding and throw it away.
Next you clean out the cube with our neutral disinfectant *
Next refill the enclosure with new fresh bedding
Next you clean out the water bowl with a damp towel and throw out the water into the garbage can
Next give clean water
Next evaluate what the food bowl looks like, if there is lots of fresh food you will shake out the top and top with fresh food, if not you will clean out the bowl as you did the water bowl and put new seed. The seed bowl is never filled past half way. Also, make sure to ask lots of questions to the person training you about how to tell if the seed is still good or needs a full replacement.
There are ways to tell that you will be taught in person. * Clean the front window and side windows of the tank with a damp towel and use of the neutral disinfectant. * Ensure all perches are clean and if not clean them and ensure they are safe.
Repeat all steps above until completed, the average time to complete these appropriately is (hours)
Next territory you will move to is “large birds”
First you will quickly vacuum this area in case you are still working this territory when the store is open.
Next you start by cleaning from left to right by doing the following: Clean the grate with a wet towel and neutral disinfectant. Let the debris fall onto the pan below or pull the tray out completely and clean on the barrel of the garbage can so you can more aggressively scrub.
Once cleaned replace the grate and move onto the pan, remove debris and paper in pan. Clean with neutral disinfectant. Place new paper and put back tray. Next clean the water bowl as you did with the cubes, replace with new water.
Evaluate the seed and top and or replace as you did with the “cube enclosures”. Repeat all of this until every cage is completed.
Follow up by vacuuming once more and mopping the territory. Next Quarantine areas. Begin with room “Q2” this is our boarding room. Begin from left to right, clean cages from top to bottom.
Remove the tray to clean, throw out all debris and paper, clean with neutral disinfectant and Replace the tray once new paper is added and folded into place as shown by your trainer.
Next clean the water bowl as you have for the other areas - replace water with fresh water and evaluate seed. In this area you will clean every seed bowl dispose of and replace with new seed.
If owner has provided specifics needs for their bird you will follow those directions giving the food instructed for specific birds and they may also have specific fruits and veggies in the fridge. You will finish by vacuuming this room.
Next you will feed, water and clean birds in quarantine room one.
Following same procedures as in quarantine room 2. You will finish this room by vacuuming it. Lastly, you will go to quarantine room 3. If there are birds in this room you will do same as quarantine room 2. After handling care for any birds in this territory you will next vacuum this room and clean the table ensuring all grooming tools are in the proper case.
You will next vacuum the hallway outside of these rooms finishing that zone.
Next you will head to “outer quarantine” near the laundry. You will clean, feed and water all birds in this zone
If brooders are in use you will clean these as you cleaned the “cube enclosures”. The only difference in cleaning these brooders versus the cube enclosures is that you will also a.) clean the vent above with a damp towel. B.) ensure the hydration cup is cleaned and replaced.
Ask your trainer to show you this in person. Lastly you will run a load of laundry by shaking out each individual towel into the garbage (ask trainer to show you how to do the laundry correctly) You will finish by vacuuming and going back and mopping this entire territory
