This video uses the word breadth instead of width. It is the same thing.
Tip: Perimeter is the fence and area is everything inside the fence.
Perimeter of a rectangle = side + side + side + side or (2 x length) + (2 x width) Width is the area next to your tummy if you placed the rectangle in front of you. ------- Length is how far out it sticks out away from your tummy |.
Area of a rectangle = length x width. In the first example problem below, they gave you the area of 20 sq cm and the length of 5 cm. To find the width, you can use that formula. You know that A = l x w, so fill in what you know. 20 = 5 x something. THink to yourself, what times 5 equals 20? Oh! 4 x 5 =20, so 20 = 5 x 4. The width of the rectangle is 4. Now you know the length of all four sides, so you can use that information to find the perimeter!
