Here's a rhyme to help you round numbers:
Mark your place (Underline the digit in the place value you are supposed to round to. If it's the tens place, underline the number there.
Look next door (check the number to the right of your underlined number)
5 or more, add one more (If the number to the right of your underlined number is 5 or bigger, add one more to the one beside your underlined number and replace the others further right with zeroes)
4 or less, let it rest (If the number to the right is 4 or smaller, just leave that number alone and replace the numbers further to the right with zeroes.
Example: Round the number 1,678 to the nearest hundreds place using the rhyme.
Mark your place 1,678 underline the number in the hundreds place
Look next door 1,678
5 or more, add one more 1,678 ---> 1,700 (I added one more to the hundreds place and turned the other digits further right to zeroes.
I don't need the rest of the rhyme and I have now rounded the number.
