Sunshine State Books

What is SSYRA?

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. The SSYRA committee is comprised of 20 qualified school librarians located throughout the state of Florida, subdivided into two committees- grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. Florida Association of Media Educators (FAME) created SSYRA 1983. Official Website

At Enterprise students can participate in these programs in a variety of ways to be able to vote on their favorite, collect brag tags, compete in a battle of the books SLAM competition, reading celebrations and more.

What are this year's books?

How do I join SLAM?

SLAM is our Book Club & Competition Team

Sunshine Literacy Adventures in Media (SLAM) is a club for students who want to challenge themselves to read Florida's Sunshine State Book list for the year.

Spots are limited! Students in grades 3-6 must keep track of the SSYRA books that they have read using the Reading Log (located on the SSYRA bulletin board) and pass the Reading Counts quiz to show comprehension.

Meeting on Wednesday afternoons. Please see Mrs. V. if you're interested!
