Introduction
Hello everyone my name is Elyssa Jordan. I am a freshman here at a college of coastal Georgia. I am in Dr. McGinnis english composition course. Today I will be doing a rhetorical analysis of the article ``Here's What Companies Are Promising to Do to Fight Racism” by Gillian Friedman. This article came out august 23 2020.
In this article Friedman explains and shows what different companies are doing to change their ways to help in the fight against racism. The main point of the whole article is to show how these companies are setting up things to help african americans and anyone else in the racial war to succeed. I believe the author's intention was not only to inform people on what these places are doing but to also try and persuade others to make a change too.
Body
The attitude the author uses almost seems grateful and happy that these big companies are stepping up and using their influence to make a difference. This here is something that the author wrote where you can see and hear the tone that she is happy and grateful they are doing something. “Companies are usually quiet at moments of public upheaval and hesitant to take a political stand for fear of alienating customers. But since Mr. Floyd’s killing late last month, businesses of all kinds have expressed their solidarity with protesters, donated millions of dollars to organizations dedicated to racial justice or vowed to change their office cultures to be more inclusive.
But some have gone further, announcing intentions to make concrete changes inside their own institutions or in how they do business.”
The audience of this article isn't anyone specific, it's anyone who wants to listen and help make a change. They want to speak out about something that is going on in the world and show what some people are doing to make a change. I don't think the author is biased in any way, they never put their opinion in the article about anything.
Closing
I thought the article was great and very informative. It provides the right information on the ways these companies are changing what they are doing in their companies and how they are also taking another step forward to give money and scholarships to people that have been affected by racism.
