The Super Bowl is famous for its commercials. Your teacher will play one of these ads, but before you watch it, we want you to listen to it. Go and sit at the other side of your desk and take something to write. Write down everything you've heard while you are listening. WATCH OUT! You can't see the video yet. Discuss in class what you've heard.
Now you can watch the commercial. Each student is assigned one feature to focus on:
Camera shots: Where is the camera positioned? Close-up? Far away?
Camera lens: Does the lens zoom in or out?
Lighting: What time of day is depicted? What clues tell you so?
Music: What types of music/instruments do you hear? How do they make you feel?
Sounds: Other than music, what other sounds do you hear (e.g. female narrator, car cranking, sound of cars going by; dog (wolf) howl, etc.)
Setting: Where is the location? Is it artificial or real?
Super Bowl ads are supposed to be the best. Do you agree? Do you think this commercial is good or bad?
