Learning a language is not easy. It's like building a house. You need a good foundation to build on. If you don't know the basics, you won't be able to become better at it. We kick off this school year with a grammar recap. Every week you need to study and practice one or two grammar topics that we discussed last year:
WEEK 1: Golden rules
WEEK 2: Present simple and present continuous
WEEK 3: Past simple, past continuous and irregular verbs
WEEK 4: Adverbs, comparative and superlative
WEEK 5: Future tenses
WEEK 6: Present perfect simple
We are going to start this grammar training in class. You'll get a handout with all the grammar information you need to study. On this webpage, you can find this information as well. Click on the icon Did you know? to open these files on your computer. Use these grammar hand-outs to understand the logic behind a grammar rule. If something is not clear, don't hesitate to ask your teacher for help. Use the hand-outs to do the exercises. Take your time to think about every answer. There's no point in rushing. If it turns out your answer is wrong, use your grammar hand-out to figure out why a particular word or sentence is the way it is. The best way to learn, is to learn from your mistakes.
Every week there will be a mini-test. If you score well on the test, your teacher knows that you got this and that you're ready for the next step. If you don't score well on the test, it becomes clear that you need extra help and training. You need a good basic knowledge of the English language, before we can move on to the next level.
