My name is Marvelyn Bucky, and I will be your online instructor for English C1000/20, section 5357/3797. I am so excited to learn, write, and share with you this semester!
In this class, we will work together to improve our reading, writing, and critical thinking skills by engaging with the course theme: Resilience in our Academic, Professional, and Personal Lives. We will have many opportunities to share cultural knowledge, discuss real-world problems from diverse perspectives, undertake collaborative work, and give and receive feedback on our writing.
As someone who loves language and writing, I am excited to take on this journey with all of you. Remember, this classroom is one of exchange, and we will be sharing and learning from one another, so I hope that we will all be active and respectful participants in our classroom. 😄
This syllabus is designed to be mobile-friendly. It can be easily accessed from your smartphone. I encourage you to bookmark it on your phone so it's easy to find and reference when you need it.
While some courses are self-paced, this course follows a weekly schedule and is facilitated be a real person -- me! Each week you'll interact with your peers in discussions and complete a series of activities and assignments. The weekly schedule allows us to learn from one another, and it keeps everyone on a path towards achieving our learning goals.
On what date does the course begin? Monday, August 18th.
What date do students need to log in by? You can access our class in Canvas as early as Friday, August 15th. The first official day of class is Monday, August 18th at 8am, and the Week 1 Module will be available then.
Are there live (online or in-person) sessions? No. This class is fully online. There are no Zoom class sessions.
What are the due dates for week one? Our first discussion for Week 1 is due by Wednesday as well as the Building Classroom Community activity. The two replies to your classmates, as well as the Week 1 Syllabus Quiz are due by Friday.
Is there a required textbook? This is a no cost course, meaning there are no textbooks required. All of the information/readings/lectures you need will be uploaded to our Canvas container.
What materials do students need to have in week one? Access to a computer and reliable Internet.
