Draft 1
When I started the semester as a first year student, I didn't know what to expect but I new it wouldn't be easy. I thought in english class you just at one topic to write about, I didn't know their was more topics like audience, genre, retorical situation that you had to write about. Even though it was tough I've learned audience, genre, retorical situation. However, I kept practicing so that I can be successfully.

Draft 2
When I started the semester as a first year college student, I didn't know what to expect. However, I knew it wouldn't be easy. I had no idea that in writing you had so many things to consider, such as audience, genre, and rhetorical situations. Even though I really did not know what they meant I learned a lot throughout this course. Although not completely confident in my writing skills I have learned a lot and feel like I have become a better writer.
I feel like my writing skills have improved however I needed to practice, rewrite, proofread and have peers and my parents proofread my work. I knew what needed to be written but did not always use the appropriate grammar and spelling. My parents have been a huge help making my writings better.

My theory of writing is it takes a lot of work! Prior to this course I often wrote down the first thing that came to mind. However, I have learned the importance of reflection and proofreading.
I feel like my writing skills have improved however I needed to practice, rewrite, proofread and have peers and my parents proofread my work. Allowing others to read my work and give feedback was very important. I knew what needed to be written but did not always use the appropriate grammar and spelling. And I really did not consider the audience, genre or rhetorical situation. Learning these terms changed my approach to writing, especially the audience. Was I writing to preschoolers or adults? It makes a big difference in how you approach your writing when you need to consider the audience.
Throughout the course I realized the importance of reflection especially since I find writing challenging. As mentioned above, I knew what I wanted to say but did not always express myself correctly. Therefore, reflection and proofreading became an important component of my writings. Having others proofread my writing and question my thoughts was very important to me developing better writing skills.
As the semester went on I learned that writing takes a lot of time, reflection, proofreading and reviewing to be effective. I learned the value of considering the genre, audience, and rhetorical situation. All of these are so important in order to connect with your audience.
