The current state of Cal Poly Pomona’s Engineering buildings, 9 and 17, falls short of reflecting the excellence of our award-winning program. With outdated facades, poor signage, and inadequate lighting, these buildings do not provide an inviting or functional space for students and faculty. The interiors suffer from worn-out finishes, cramped offices, uncomfortable classrooms, and a lack of study and lounge areas. This project aims to modernize these facilities, creating a vibrant and efficient environment that truly represents the importance and innovation of engineering
Feedback from a recent survey of 135 students and faculty underscores the urgency of these renovations. With 45% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction, there is a clear demand for significant improvements. Desired upgrades include the incorporation of more natural light, the addition of collaboration and innovation spaces, and enhanced learning environments focused on comfort and wellness. A modern, aesthetically pleasing exterior is also a top priority. These changes are essential not only for enhancing the appeal and functionality of the Engineering buildings but also for fostering a proactive and engaging learning atmosphere that better supports the needs of students and faculty. By addressing these concerns, we aim to create a welcoming and state-of-the-art environment that truly represents the quality of the Engineering Program at Cal Poly Pomona.
