With the additions and changes to both buildings, there were some structural considerations to take into account and analyze how to support the added loads.
With Building 9 South being a Deep foundation, it was best to support the additional load with micropiles in order to go to the proper depths needed due to inconsistent and weak soils.
Building 9 North had little to no additional weight so it was decided that there would be no structural changes.
For Building 17, we found a 3o% increase in the overall all load with added elements. Footing width is to increase by one foot to increase bearing capacity.
For the 15,000 SF patio, demolition of existing roof to add larger beams plus metal deck slab is needed to support live load changes.
The connecting corridor had no geotechnical report, so it was undecided what to finalize our design. With this consideration it was determined that if the depths needed to go past 12 feet, then it would be best to incorporate micropiles as the foundation. Otherwise, we'd use a caisson design connecting the post directly to the Cassion.
