This is a continuation of New Faculty Orientation. All new faculty will be placed in a co-hort for two years where they will engage in college activities. In the first year, faculty will participate in cohort meetings and various college activities. During the second year, they will be provided a mentor in their school and will complete the requirements from that school.
This workshop series will explore the use of action research to facilitate engagement in the scholarship of teaching and instruction. Workshop participants will learn the basics of action research, track progress (if they have already started an AR project), plan the next steps, and form communities of practice. TCC has partnered with Packback which is a platform that instructors can incorporate in their course to increase student engagement. Packback’s mission is to empower every student to be fearlessly curious, develop strong writing skills, and find their unique voice. Packback’s “Digital TA” accelerates grading and course management, while keeping you in the control. In Packback Questions, student discussion posts are automatically scored according to our proprietary Curiosity Score. Educators choose the Curiosity Score threshold for students to receive full credit, and can manually override scores. In Packback Deep Dives, educators receive AI-recommended scores for each component of their writing rubrics (like “Grammar”), which they can choose to override or keep. Educators also see “Smart Highlights”, which highlight key aspects of the text to make reviewing student work easier. Training sessions are offered throughout the academic year and are advertised in TCC Today.
Writing Lab is a powerful direct-to-student AI writing feedback platform for students to develop writing skills and confidence outside of the classroom. Writing Lab helps students use AI for writing in ways that teach them how to be great writers. The goal is to build confident writers who can express themselves effectively with and without AI tools. Packback:
Why should students use Writing Labs?
Helps them write with confidence by providing real-time AI-powered writing feedback.
Helps them choose credible sources and cite them correctly.
Helps them avoid plagiarism and use AI transparently.

Thanks to a generous grant from Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies, every adjunct faculty member is eligible to participate in a Quality Matters training activity. Adjunct faculty who participate in select QM activities will receive a $100 stipend. Full-time faculty are not eligible for a stipend but will satisfy their ongoing Faculty Development requirement to teach online. This is strongly suggested for those teaching online courses; high level asynchronous workshops helpful to all, but in particular, for those teaching online. For more information contact onlinelearning@tulsacc.edu.
Faculty Association hosts a one-day professional development opportunity every spring semester. It consists of breakout sessions of topics that can enhance the teaching experience.
