Holiday Projects
Here are some projects, greetings, and thoughts about the various holidays of the year. One way to make these times memorable is to plan activities that enhance the season. Here are some ideas.
At our house, there were a lot of holiday traditions that have come to us down through the years, and some of them we still try to continue. This brings a kind of continuity to the season, and helps us remember our roots and the people who have left us. One of these traditions is the practice of making small holiday gifts for each other, and we still do that today. In the past, we also did a lot of decorating with branches, vines, and berries that we collected from the woodlands around our home, but this is something that we no longer do. All the same, it is nice to remember the traditions of the past.
The thing is, times change, and people and societies change with them. Although it is amusing to relive some of the “good old days” by keeping up with the ways things used to be, it isn't always practical. Of course, some of these traditions might just be written down on paper, and perhaps that is the best way to relive them.
The various holidays of the year are the times to feel free to indulge in a little nostalgia and add some of the happier parts of the past to the present. You might even want to make a family history of the happenings of bygone days. The memories will not all be pleasant of course, but the passing years have a way of adding a gloss to the ghosts of Celebrations Past. In any event, it might be time to write these stories down—the good, the bad, and the silly.
