I entered the Digital Storytelling in TESOL Contexts course with very basic knowledge of creating slides in PowerPoint and other programs. While working as a K-12 substitute teacher over the last two years, I observed how nearly all the classroom teachers in the district use PowerPoint and Google Slides to guide instruction and manage classroom activities on Smart Panels. Through the assignments for the Digital Storytelling course, I learned to create dynamic and engaging PowerPoint presentations to increase student engagement and knowledge retention as well as make learning more accessible for different learning styles and learning needs. I am confident that I will use these skills in the near future as I transition to a classroom role, and I look forward to learning more about incorporating digital storytelling tasks and assignments in K-12 curriculum.
