1a: Demonstrating Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy
During my 4th grade student teaching placement, I quickly learned how important it is to be familiar with the content you are teaching. When I have a solid knowledge of the material, I feel more confident teaching, and more certain that my students are learning.
1b: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
Knowing my students and understanding their needs is crucial when lesson planning. In my middle school placement, I work to design lessons for supplemental reading that will accommodate my learning support students.
An example of a supplemental reading lesson for 6th-8th grade learning support. I created a checklist to guide students through the lesson. Having the checklist not only helps them to stay on track, but also for me to make sure that I am carefully working through the steps with them at their pace.
