Welcome to my Multimedia and Digital Recourses tool page! Within this page you will find 6 different tools targeted for primary/junior learners that assist students learning about habitats and communities. Multimedia and digital tools engage learners and allow for student centered and inquiry based education. This section will focus on tools that help learners understand ecosystems and the impact of animal/plant relationships.
Multimedia Sources
This 5-minute animation provides an overview of different habitats and the plants and animals that live within them. It’s an engaging introductory video that helps students start their journey into the study of ecosystems.
This 15-minute video offers a detailed exploration of various habitats and their specific subcategories. It features real-life examples of what these ecosystems look like and what viewers can expect to find if they encounter them. It also features a young speaker, which may engage students by showing someone their age expressing interest in the topic they are about to explore.
This meme combines a current event—saving turtles from straws—with the popular song "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. It uses these elements to educate readers about the harmful effects straws can have on wildlife. This engaging and humorous multimedia tool can effectively teach students about human impacts on ecosystems.
Digital Resources
On a website called The Nature Conservancy they provide resources for many different virtual field trips that allow students to explore natural environments. Some of these include; Working Trees: Reforestation and Responsible Forestry and Less Harm on the Farm: Regenerative Agriculture. The site also includes teacher guides for each field trip to help teachers educate students on these topics.
The Gizmo from Explore Learning provides a interactive simulation where the student will work as a park ranger to try to balance an ecosystem. Student's will explore a real world issue and use critical thinking and problem solving to try to try to find a solution. Teachers are able to monitor the students process and follow along with them.
This instructional guide outlines an activity focused on learning about habitats and communities. It is designed for primary and junior learners and incorporates multimedia tools.
