Students participating in this class will:
Engage in concentration and muscle strength activities designed to enhance the quality of life and address issues related to healthy aging
Identify the scientific principles of ideal body weight and composition
Demonstrate concentration and muscle strengthening exercises conducive to long term physical wellness
Identify limitations in exercises as they relate to the students' current level of fitness and health.
Ensure safety procedures and precautions.
Identify and work toward integration of proper nutritional practices
Demonstrate a change in body composition closer to a healthy body composition
Identify concentration and muscle strengthening techniques for developing and maintaining physical fitness emphasizing body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and endurance, and flexibility
Engage and identify activities to prevent brain loss
Identify illness and injury prevention
Explain prevention of falls
Students completing this course satisfactorily will be able to:
1. Understand and develop techniques conducive and related to healthy aging, including the five components of physical fitness with emphasis on mental concentration and muscle strengthening.
2. Respond positively to the intellectual, emotional and physical challenges of aging.
3. Demonstrate use of intellectual and practical lifelong learning skills and knowledge relative to the discipline.
