Fleur teaches health education with an emphasis on yoga and Pilates, circuit training, balance & mobility, and occasionally a lecture course called Age-Related Health Risk Factors. Other classes she's taught for the Emeritus Institute include chair exercise, sequential stretching and aquatic exercise.
Fleur's professional interests include creating evidence-based lectures and incorporating practical skills in maintaining independence in daily activities. She helps her students discern pop fitness/nutrition versus research-based fitness/nutrition, fall-proof methods for improving balance, and self-myofascial release methods of releasing fascia to change inhibited movement patterns and pain relief, and understanding the importance of the lymphatic self massage for our health.
Fleur was formerly the Director of the Pregnagym at Irvine Medical Center, and has worked in settings such as injury reduction and prevention in the industrial workplace, and with elite athletes at the Tom Landry Sports Medicine and Research Center. She has held Department Chair/Program Chair positions for the Emeritus Institutes at Saddleback and Irvine Valley College for 4 years.
In her free time, Fleur enjoys swimming, cycling, and trail running. Fleur is a 3x full Ironman triathlete (140.6 mi) and 10x half Ironman (70.3 mi) triathlete. She loves being a life-long student (nerd alert!), and is also a mother of two young adult boys (one in college and the other is a start-up software entrepreneur), and is the wife to a Masters swimmer. She resides in the Tustin area.
Fleur has taught health education and exercise at the college level since 1993. She currently offers: asynchronous, pre-recorded courses for Emeritus Institute, but has taught in-person, online, and hybrid versions of her health education classes and serves students from all over the world.
She is a certified Pilates and yoga instructor with both Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton and Baylor University. She is a certified personal trainer with NASM, and holds many other fitness certifications including kickboxing and running coach. She is an life-long learner.
Fleur also possesses a specialized certificate for using Pilates to address pathologies and injuries, including osteoporosis and other spinal and health issues. She is Advanced Certified and Teacher Trainer for The Rossiter System of Stretching, where she helps individuals manage joint and muscle pain through 2-person, deep myofascial release through stretching exercises.
