The EMERGE robot system has the following features

1 rotational degree of freedom

The module is based on Dynamixel AX-12A/18A servo motor

Magnetic connector faces

Four magnetic connector faces let the EMERGE module be quickly connected/disconnected to other modules, the connectors can sustain up to 1.3 N.m of torque

Gendered Faces

The magnetic faces connect in an specific order to make tree like structures

Internal PCB

Four internal PCB boards are in charge of routing communication and power, two different version of the electronics exist

Electrical spring loaded pins

Spring loaded pins help maintain connection under small separations

Infrared Sensors

Some versions have infrared sensors on their connector faces
