When we think about power outages, we rarely think about it in the context of an emergency event, rather than a one-off situation that the power company will quickly address. But during severe weather conditions such as extreme heat, flooding, heavy snowfall, high winds, and fires, power outages are more likely to occur due to regulating usage and malfunctioning equipment. In these situations, power outages can last for hours, and even days, leading to more significant impacts to an individual.
Basic services that we take for granted could be inaccessible, such as:
Communications, water, internet, and transportation.
Retail stores, grocery stores, gas stations, ATMs, and other services.
Fresh food and clean water.
Access to durable medical devices and prescription medication.
SDRC clients will likely get their electricity from one of two providers, either SDG&E or IID. Each utility provider has their own Access and Function Needs programs for their customers, which we have included in the links below.
Additionally, if you or a loved one in your household rely on durable medical equipment (DME), you may qualify for certain programs depending on your service provider!
If you are a SDG&E customer, please click HERE for additional information.
If you are an IID customer, please click HERE to access the form to sign up as a critical care customer who relies on DME. Other questions may be directed to IID's Customer Service department HERE.
