How to sign in to Yahoo Mail or figure out what's wrong if you can't

Google's Gmail is now the most popular webmail service, but as recently as 2020, Yahoo Mail had 225 million users.

If you're one of them, you might need to log in to your Yahoo Mail account. It can be used on your phone (Android or iPhone) and on any computer or device with a web browser. Here's how to get started.

How to log into Yahoo Mail on your phone or tablet

If you sign in to the Yahoo Mail app on your iPhone or Android phone, you will usually stay signed in until you sign out on your own. Logging in is easy and works the same way on both iOS and Android devices.

1. Open the app for Yahoo Mail. If you haven't signed into any mail accounts yet, the Sign In page will show up. Click Log in with Yahoo.

2. Type your Yahoo Mail username, email address, or mobile phone number associated with the account, and then tap Next.

3. Type in your password and tap Next.

4. You'll be signed in and taken to your inbox after a moment.

If you already have a Yahoo account and want to sign in to another, do this:

Tap the Y! icon in the top left corner of the Yahoo Mail app.

2. Tap Manage accounts in the menu.

3. Select "Add account." (If you are using an iPhone, you will see a dialog box asking for permission to open a browser window. Tap Continue.)

4. Type in your Yahoo Mail username, email address, or mobile phone number associated with the account, and then tap Next.

5. Type in your password and tap Next.

6. After a moment, you'll be signed in and taken to your inbox.

How to fix Yahoo Mail Login problems

There are a few things that could make it hard for you to log in to Yahoo Mail. Most of the time, it's because you lost or forgot your username or password. By resetting your sign-in information, Yahoo makes it easy to get back into your account. Try this on the page where you sign in:

Tap Forgot username? under the Next button if you don't know your Yahoo username or email address. On the next page, you can enter your recovery email address (another email address you've previously linked to the account) or phone number, tap Continue, and then follow the instructions to log in.

If you don't know your password, tap Forgot Password? under the Next button and follow the instructions to reset your password and log in.

When you try to sign in, you might also get a message saying that your ID or password is wrong. There are some common ways to fix it:

This usually means you've made some sort of typo when entering your credentials. Check your spelling again to make sure you used the right capitalization and didn't mix up letters like I, L, and 1.

If the problem keeps happening, try logging in with a different device or web browser.

If your browser's autofill feature is on, turn it off and type in the username and password yourself.

You can also try to reset your password using the Forgot password? link. It's possible that you changed the password in the past but forgot to write it down.
